What is mediation likely to cost?

  • Naturally, you will be concerned about mediation costs. However, your first meeting with a mediator (known as a MIAM) will cost no more than £150 (including VAT)
  • At your first meeting, we will, if you wish, assess whether or not you qualify for Legal Aid, provided that you bring with you all the required information for that assessment
  • If you are both eligible for Legal Aid, you will not have to pay for the MIAM and any subsequent meetings
  • If one person qualifies for Legal Aid, and the other doesn’t, the non-qualifying client is still entitled to a MIAM, and the first joint meeting will be free of charge
  • It is essential that you provide documents to prove your eligibility for Legal Aid – without these, we cannot grant you Legal Aid for mediation
  • If you are not eligible for Legal Aid, you will receive detailed information on the full mediation costs of the process before commencement

To check whether you may be able to get Legal Aid please go to the Gov.uk website linked here.
